A Holistic and Integrative approach gives me exponential options for helping a pet. Whether it be preventative care, an aid to healing acute or long standing illnesses or improving quality of life, this approach is safe and offers innumerable choices and opportunities. I am as passionate about this method as I am with healing and helping animals.
What to expect...
For our first meeting, expect a 45-60 minute visit. During this time I will become acquainted with you and your companion, and will ask many questions. For instance, what is a typical day in the life of your pet? What is their daily exercise regimen, diet, nutrition, medications and supplements? All other medical and/or surgical history is pertinent. I will then examine your pet based on a conventional and TCVM (Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medical) approach. This will help me establish a treatment plan. At the end of the first session, your pet will typically receive an Acupuncture treatment, a holistic regimen that may include Western or Chinese herbs, nutraceutical and/or homotox remedy. In addition, I will send you home with an individualized instruction sheet and protocol for your pet....If we did Acupuncture, we typically meet again in one week for initial treatments. Otherwise, a follow up in two weeks is recommended so we can assess how our protocol is working. After our meetings, I will send a referral letter to your regular veterinarian to let him/her know about our visit and integrative plan.
You are an integral part of our success. As a team, we will watch for positive changes and tweak protocols as necessary. I will ask for your input at subsequent visits as to how you think your pet is doing, and may give you acupressure/massage exercises to administer on your pet in between appointments to help sustain and enhance acupuncture treatments."
Veterinary Acupuncture
Simply put, Acupuncture is stimulation of special points on the body in order to evoke a desired healing effect. Techniques employed can involve dry needle technique, Aquapuncture and/or Electro-Acupuncture. Also, lacer and laser devices can be used. Like most holistic modalities, Acupuncture can be used on its own or in conjunction with conventional medicine and surgery. It can benefit any disease process including liver and kidney disease, osteoarthritis and chronic pain, hip and/or elbow dysplasia, inflammatory bowel disease, allergies, respiratory issues, intervertebral disc disease (IVDD)-to name a few. Acupuncture brings forth a noticeable improvement, if not recovery, from many disease processes.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Western and Chinese herbs can be safely and effectively used in many disease states or conditions. Herbs offer a gentle approach that aid the body in healing itself. They can be used on their own or with other holistic modalities, as well as conventional medicine when necessary.
Western Herbal Medicine
Western Herbal Medicine: Formulated herbal tinctures or glycerites
hand-tailored for your pets specific concern(s) or condition(s).
Homotoxicology / Homeopathy
Based on the theory that “like cures like”. In keeping with holistic practices, homeopathy/homotoxicology believe the body has the ability to heal itself. The remedies may be single or combinations of diluted substances most derived from plants and minerals. Unlike conventional medicine, the more diluted the form of the substance, the stronger it becomes. In other words, the “energy” and strength of the substance is magnified as the concentration of the original is diluted. I often use as an adjutant to conventional medicine with pleasing results.
Nutrition & Diet
An appropriate nutritional plan and diet regimen may help the immune system function at its peak while decreasing inflammation. For example, as current research suggests, diets rich in carbohydrates (specifically those high on the glycemic index) may not be the best choices for an animal with cancer. A whole food diet with high quality protein and lots of leafy green vegetables may be more appropriate for these animals. Moreover, diets rich in omega 3 fatty acids can help decrease inflammation in the body overall, thus can benefit many, if not all disease states from osteoarthritis, kidney and liver disease to cognitive function. Therefore, a discussion of your pet’s current diet and a well thought plan, can greatly influence health and well being.
Vitamins and Nutraceuticals
Vitamin supplements and different nutraceuticals can be very helpful and aid in many disease processes. Depending on the condition, an individualized protocol may include glucosamine, chondroitin and fatty acid supplementation to B vitamins and/or supplements containing stategic amino acids.
